What is orienteering?
Orienteering is a running sport where the goal is to visit, in sequence, control points that are indicated on a special purpose map. Orienteering is a great way to get out and have fun running in the forest improving not only one's physique but also navigation skills.
More information about orienteering is available, for example, on Wikipedia.
What is streamer orienteering?
Streamer orienteering (streamer-O) is created for little children so they can slowly learn how to find their way in the forest and familiarize with the map and compass. The streamer-O course is marked with bright-colored, usually orange or pink, streamers hanging on tree branches to help kids find their way even without relying on the map and compass. However, the course is prepared so more advanced kids can take advantage of their navigation skills and attempt to shortcut the marked route.
Streamer-O controls are a smaller variant of the usual white and orange flags and instead of punching a control card, kids place stickers on their control cards. See the streamer-O pictures from past QOC meets.
